Keeping in touch with family at your Hotel in Israel

Taking a long-awaited vacation to Israel can be one of the most thrilling adventures in life.  The one downside might be that you'll miss friends and family while staying at a hotel in Israel. Today, however, you don't have to feel as though you're missing them.  Twenty years ago might have been a completely different story, but with today's superior technology, and extremely reasonable charges (if any at all), you won't even feel like you're missing them.

So what are some of the ways you can keep in contact with friends and family while you're staying at your hotel in Israel?  The most obvious way is your phone.  However, it's not that simple.  Most phones don't work overseas, so you'll need to rent one either through your travel group, at the airport, or even at one of the phone stores.  Minutes will probably cost a little more than normal since it's a rental, but it can still be quite reasonable.  Just compare to a couple of decades ago when cell phones didn't exist and most tourists had to use public telephones to call home, at astronomical prices.

An even cheaper method of staying in touch is the internet.  Emails get delivered at a click of the mouse, and if you want to actually speak to someone, you can use a free download like Skype to talk to other Skype registered users absolutely free.  All you need is wireless access and a computer.  Most hotels in Israel have wireless access as well as computers you can use for a small fee.  Even some restaurants and shopping malls in Israel have wireless access.  It's simply mind boggling to think that even 10 years ago laptops didn't exist and internet bars were unheard of.

If you're not so technologically inclined, there's always the trusted post-card to rely on.  Mail service in Israel is much improved over the last 10 or 20 years.  It only takes about 5 -7 days to reach the States.  Stamps are reasonable and can usually be purchased in the gift shops in the hotels in Israel.

Now you don't have any excuses to put off that trip to Israel.  With cell phones, email, etc, you're just a few seconds away from your friends and family.
