Packing Tips for your Trip
Packing the right clothes for your trip to Israel can either make or break your vacation. How many times have you gone on a trip and it started to rain but you didn't pack your raincoat and boots? Or it was extremely hot and you had to run out and buy a swimsuit? Although most hotels in Israel have clothing boutiques, it's still an inconvenience and an added expense to go out and buy new clothes. Our tips below can help you properly plan your vacation wardrobe.
1. Pack light for summer - The summer in Israel is long and hot, lasting from early May to late September. Even though most major hotels in Israel have excellent air-conditioning, you still feel the unrelenting heat when you're outdoors. Make sure to bring plenty of light weight clothes, shorts, bathing suits, sandals, and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. Don't forget your suntan lotion, sunglasses, and hat, as the sun is extremely strong. If you plan to spend some time in Jerusalem, bring a light weight jacket or sweater. Nights can be somewhat chilly, even in the height of summer.
2. Bring your rain boots for winter - The rainy season in Israel is relatively short - from December to mid-March. Rain can be heavy at times and can last a few days at a time. However, you can run into dry, warm spells, especially in the south of the country. Snow is infrequent, and usually only occurs around the upper Galilee and the Jerusalem area. Bring warm pants, sweaters, a heavy jacket, a scarf, rain gear, and warm socks. You should also pack a few short sleeve shorts and even a swimsuit in case it's warm, especially if you plan on staying at the Dead Sea or Eilat. Most hotels in Israel can keep you updated on the latest weather conditions.
Pack a mixed bag for fall and spring - If you blink, you might miss these two seasons. Fall usually lasts from October to November, and spring, from mid-March to the end of April. These two seasons are usually characterized by comfortable day time temperatures and chilly nights. Bring long pants, shorts, sweaters, a swimsuit, walking shoes, and sandals. Although you can easily buy an umbrella or rain boots at any one of the hotels in Israel, you don't want to get caught in a spring downpour.
